Teona Kvirikashvili, Geneva, Switzerland - 2023 Edition

June of 2023 will always be memorable for me, specifically because that is when I attended the UNIGE-WIPO Summer School on Intellectual Property Law. 

Having studied law in Switzerland and Georgia I already knew quite a lot about IP law before attending the program, which is why I was not sure whether it would fully be worth the investment. Luckily my fears did not manifest and indeed the summer school lived up to expectations. For me personally the summer school delivered most value in terms of being very cutting edge and taking place partly at the premises of WIPO. 

I am writing my Ph.D. thesis on AI and IP topic, so it was especially important to have several presentations on the issue of my interest. I am pretty certain though that no matter what a specific interest of a person is, they will feel the exact same way since the program of the summer school is incredibly broad. 

Finally, something that I will always have with me, is of course the social aspect and relationships I managed to build up in these 2 weeks. I wholeheartedly recommend attending this summer school to anyone who is interested in IP and innovation.

"I had the opportunity to be accepted to the WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on Intellectual Property organized by the University of Geneva and the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, and it was the first step to learn more about the wonderful world of Intellectual Property, in this edition I was the only Peruvian who was present in the program but I am very sure that soon we will be more Latinos participating in this training experience. In the summer classes, I really liked pluralism and interculturality because this helped us a lot to enrich and strengthen our networking and see IP management from a global perspective.

On the other hand, to achieve the objectives of the program, we had excellent teachers, with a lot of experience and professional background, who provided us with a lot of knowledge that was reinforced through casuistry and debates. (I really wish they could read my testimony because I want them to know that I am very grateful to each one of them).

To conclude, I would like to emphasize that I was delighted to have participated in the WIPO-UNIGE Summer School, because all the effort and enthusiasm put forth by WIPO and the University of Geneva was always reflected. It has been a real pleasure to have met each of the members with whom I shared two wonderful weeks and I know that everything I have learned will bring us great value in our professional"

Two consecutive weeks of WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on Intellectual Property came to an end last Friday in the blink of an eye. I can't believe that although the event was held virtually, we have been deeply engaged through group projects and discussion panels during these 2 weeks. A great opportunity and must go event for all IP enthusiasts to grasp high volume of data and academic resources on IP , to extend network and meet a lot of prominent IP scholars and professionals from all over the world. Without a doubt behind every productive event, there is a dedicated team working hardly, huge thanks to University of Geneva, World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on Intellectual Property 2021 organizers; Irene Calboli, Jacques de Werra, Eugenia Huguenin-ElieNastassia Merlino for their genuine efforts and kind support even prior to the kick-off meeting until the last moment of closing reception. Furthermore, I want to express my gratitude to Sanaz Javadi Farahzadi for her awareness raising among Iranian academic community regarding the upcoming international academic events. Surprisingly this year, due to her support, Iranians constitute majority of participants. It was a pleasure and an honor to attend the 10th edition of the WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on Intellectual Property organized by the University of Geneva and the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO. Such an incredible opportunity during these troubled times to e-meet students and professionals from all over the world, to attend incredible lectures of the most outstanding experts in the field, and to gain invaluable knowledge.

Even if we were not physically in Geneva, it was still possible for us to interact thanks to the informal sessions and group activities. I am proud to be now part of the alumni community and I hope to meet all the participants and the organizers in the future.

Having the opportunity to hear from some of the best in the field has been a surreal experience. From lectures to group discussions and presentations, we have had opportunities to explore avenues of intellectual property law and applying concepts to various case samples; it’s safe to say that two weeks is definitely not enough.

A little disappointed that it’s over, but so very glad to have learnt a lot.

I am so blessed to finish today the Summer School on Intellectual Property by World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO and University of Geneva. Over 100 participants from all parts of the world joined together in 2 weeks of truly intensive online session. It was 10th Anniversary of WIPO-UNIGE summer school and the first time this course taught online. And it was my best experience during this difficult 2020 year.

I would highlight the quality of lectures, the engagement of students, the brilliant lecturers staff comprised from practitioners with broad experience and honored professors.

I say goodbye with a heavy heart, but I thank you with great appreciation, especially people who perfectly organized this difficult online session - Hélène Bruderer, Joe Bradley, Jacques de Werra and Irene Calboli. And Ana Andrijevic for being so attentive and helpful with final presentation of our group.

I feel so grateful for having been part of this Course despite the current COVID-19 situation.
